10 february. There was a session of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of the socio-economic development in 2005 and the priorities for deepening economic reforms in 2006. President Islam Karimov spoke. 

"Speaking about the results of 2005, we can note with satisfaction that practically all the macroeconomic indicators were achieved and some were exceeded.


"The growth of GNP was 7% and inflation - 7.8%. Production grew by 7.3%, including consumer goods by 17.7% and agriculture by 6.2%. 

"The state budget for 2005 had a surplus of 0.1% versus the forecast deficit of 1%, and the income part exceeded the forecast by 39%. 

Special attention was paid to SME and private enterprise development. Due to the introduction of a uniform tax system, the number of tax returns was reduced by 10 times. The number of registered SMEs grew by 31,500." 

March. The first Certificate of electronic digital signature key and the Certificate of state registration of the center of the electronic digital signature keys registration are given. 

March. The first women Internet festival of Uzbekistan is carried out. 

March. The Association of enterprises and organizations of information technologies of Uzbekistan is created. 

April. The number of Internet users in Uzbekistan exceeded one million. 

16 august. Heads of member states of the Eurasian Economic Community and the Collective Security Treaty Organization held an informal meeting in Sochi, Russia on Wednesday. 

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmonov and Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich (as an observer) participated in the meeting. 

The leaders discussed creation of the Customs Union within the EurAsEC and exchanged views on the community’s perspectives. 

Among other discussed issues were creation of the single energy market and the water and energy consortium. 

The presidents also discussed issues of cooperation in the field of security. They listened to the reports of the EurAsEC General Secretary Grigory Rapota and CSTO General Secretary Nikolai Bordyuzha. 

At the press conference after the negotiations, the leaders said they had common views on the issue of development of the single energy market. They also said they discussed cooperation in development of nuclear energy and efficient use of water resources in Central Asia. 

September. The first national exhibition of information technologies ICT EXPO 2006. 

All regional centers of the Republic are covered with digital telecommunication networks.
