On September 14, Tashkent’s Palace of Symposiums hosted an international conference organized at the initiative of President Islam Karimov. The forum has addressed the role and importance of small business and private entrepreneurship in the implementation of socio-economic policy in Uzbekistan.

The event was attended by representatives of a number of prominent international organizations and financial institutions, including the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, the Asian Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the leading experts and business people from more than forty-five nations such as the United States of America, China, South Korea, Japan, Great Britain, France, Germany, Canada, along with representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Uzbekistan.

The conference has been designed to evaluate the advanced practices in the development of small business and private entrepreneurship as a vital link in building a sustainable economy and spearheading social transformation. Also, the event has had the objective of familiarizing the international community with Uzbekistan’s achievements in the field.

The Alisher Navoi National Park of Uzbekistan has hosted festive events in honor of the twenty first anniversary of our country’s state independence.

The Uzbek people celebrate the great historic date – the twenty-first anniversary of national independence – with keen inspiration and excitement. This occasion brings about the sense of inestimable pride and happiness. This year’s greatest and dearest holiday is celebrated under the slogan “My Fate, My Fortune, the Native and Independent Uzbekistan”.

On August 31, the square of Alisher Navoi National Park of Uzbekistan gathered the members of Senate and the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, government members, Heroes of Uzbekistan, science and culture figures, literary and art specialists, avant-garde of manufacturers, entrepreneurs, representatives of social organizations, embassies and international organizations accredited in our country.

Festive events timed to the Navruz, a holiday of creation, renewal and kindness, have been held at the Alisher Navoi National Park of Uzbekistan.

The occasion has been attended by President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, members of government and parliament, outstanding figures of academia, culture, arts, sports, manufacturing leaders, entrepreneurs, veterans, diplomatic corps and representatives of international institutions accredited in Uzbekistan.

The head of our state delivered a congratulatory address at the event.

“National Model of Mother and Child Healthcare in Uzbekistan: Healthy Mother – Healthy Child” international symposium took place on November 26 in Symposiums Palace of Tashkent’s Ma’rifat Markazi (Enlightenment Center) complex.

Organized by the initiative of Uzbekistan’s President Islam Karimov, the event has been arranged by the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with World Health Organization (WHO), UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and UN Population Fund (UNFPA). Some 300 world-renowned academics and representatives of international healthcare organizations, including the leaderships of WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, health ministries of around forty nations, including the United States, China, Russia, Canada, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Finland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Denmark, South Korea and others, attended the symposium.

Principal topic of discussion has been the outcomes of cardinal reforms undertaken in Uzbekistan during independence years in public healthcare, including maternity and childhood care, nurturing a healthy generation, shaping a relevant unified national model in this realm.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov addressed the international forum.

The Uzbek-US business forum was held in Tashkent on 18 February in the framework of the visit to Uzbekistan of Robert Blake, US Assistant State Secretary, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.

Opening the forum, Galina Saidova, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, said cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States was developing in all areas, including trade and economy.

Uzbekistan and the United States signed an Intergovernmental Agreement on Science and Technology Cooperation on 2 December in Tashkent.

A delegation of Uzbekistan will take part in the UN Summit on the Millennium Development Goals to be held on September 20-22 in the headquarters of the United Nations in New York. According to the UN Information Center in Tashkent, the Uzbek delegation will report on the country's progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
